Bare root shrubs come in the same types and sizes as you can purchase in a container. The difference is that the are supplied without any soil around the roots during the dormancy period between November and March - that means no plastic pots either so you'll be doing your bit to help reduce plastic usage too! After planting, the roots will quietly establish below ground during the dormancy period, ready to fuel a fantastic display of flowers and foliage when the soil starts to warm up in the spring. Bare root shrubs are cheaper than their containerised counterparts so if you don't mind venturing out into the garden in the autumn/winter, they could be a good choice.
