Your garden doesn’t need to stop blooming, even when summer is over. While berrying plants and foliage colour are the mainstay of the autumn garden, there are a useful range of autumn flowering shrubs that can keep your garden blossoming right through to the first frosts. Some of the best include Euonymus europaeus which produces unusual yellow flowers followed by red fruits with orange seeds and elder plants with their deeply dissected, toothed foliage and sprays of flat flower heads in shades of pink or white. Callicarpa is another great choice with the added benefit of metallic purple berries in late autumn through winter, while winter flowering heathers at the front of borders or in containers will keep the display going right through the winter.
