Narcissus 'Camelot' is a stunning large cup daffodil that brings elegance and charm to spring gardens. This reliable perennial bulb produces classic golden-yellow blooms with distinctive orange-flushed cups, creating a warm and cheerful display that signals the end of winter.
Key Features
This hardy daffodil variety stands approximately 35cm tall when in full bloom, making it perfect for mid-border plantings or naturalising in grass. The robust stems support well-proportioned flowers with pristine white petals surrounding vibrant yellow-orange cups. Each bulb typically produces one flower per stem, though mature clumps may develop multiple flowering stems.
Growing Conditions
Narcissus 'Camelot' thrives in well-drained soil and prefers full sun to partial shade conditions. Like most daffodils, it's remarkably tolerant of various soil types, from clay to sandy loam, provided drainage is adequate. The bulbs are fully hardy and will withstand typical British winters without protection.
Planting Guide
Plant bulbs in autumn, ideally between September and November, at a depth of 10-15cm and spacing them 10cm apart. For naturalised plantings, scatter bulbs randomly and plant where they fall for a more organic appearance. In formal borders, group odd numbers together for maximum visual impact.
Flowering Period
Expect blooms from mid to late March through April, depending on local conditions. The flowers typically last 2-3 weeks, providing excellent cut flower material for indoor arrangements. Deadhead spent blooms but allow foliage to die back naturally to feed next year's display.

This low-maintenance variety requires minimal care once established. Apply a balanced fertiliser in early spring as shoots emerge. Avoid cutting foliage until it yellows completely, usually 6-8 weeks after flowering. Clumps can be lifted and divided every 4-5 years if they become overcrowded.

'Camelot' works beautifully in mixed spring borders, rock gardens, containers, or naturalised in woodland settings and grass verges. It pairs excellently with other spring bulbs like crocuses, grape hyacinths, and tulips. The deer and rabbit-resistant nature makes it ideal for rural gardens.

Plant alongside primroses, forget-me-nots, or wallflowers for extended spring colour. Later-flowering perennials like hostas or daylilies will help disguise the dying daffodil foliage whilst providing summer interest.
