Arabis ‘Little Treasure White’ is a compact, evergreen perennial known for its crisp white flowers and tidy, low-growing habit. Ideal for rock gardens, walls, troughs, or sunny borders, this reliable spring bloomer brings a clean, fresh touch to garden spaces at a time when colour is still scarce. Easy to grow and fuss-free, it’s a perfect addition to small gardens, containers, or gravel planting schemes.

In early spring, Arabis ‘Little Treasure White’ becomes smothered in pure white flowers that appear in dense clusters above the foliage. These blooms create a luminous carpet effect and are especially striking when paired with darker foliage or colourful companions. The pristine flowers bring a sense of freshness and clarity to the garden as it emerges from winter.
Compact and Neat Form
This variety has a naturally compact, mounding habit, making it ideal for edging, alpine troughs, or filling gaps in rockeries. It forms a dense mat that spreads gently, providing ground cover without becoming invasive or untidy.
Evergreen Foliage for Year-Round Interest
The small, grey-green leaves remain evergreen throughout the year, offering texture and colour even when the plant is not in flower. Its neat appearance and fine foliage make it attractive in all seasons, especially in combination with other low-growing perennials.
Thanks to its tolerance of poor soils and dry conditions, ‘Little Treasure White’ is well suited to gravel gardens, dry slopes, stone walls, and containers. It’s an excellent choice for sunny spots where drainage is sharp and conditions can be challenging for fussier plants.
The early flowers provide a welcome food source for bees and other early-flying pollinators. Including Arabis in your garden helps support beneficial insects at a critical time of year, contributing to a healthy garden ecosystem.
Low Maintenance and Easy to Grow
Arabis ‘Little Treasure White’ is a great option for gardeners seeking easy-care plants. It requires minimal upkeep beyond occasional watering in very dry weather and a light trim after flowering to keep it tidy and compact. It’s pest- and disease-resistant and thrives without feeding in most garden soils.
Watering: Water well during the first season. Once established, only water during prolonged dry spells.
Feeding: Not needed in poor soil. In containers, a general-purpose feed in early spring will suffice.
Pruning: Lightly shear back after flowering to encourage fresh growth and a tidy shape.
Potted: Ideal for shallow containers and alpine troughs using free-draining compost.
Propagation: Easy to divide in spring or autumn; can also be grown from seed.
Arabis ‘Little Treasure White’ is fully hardy throughout the UK and performs well in exposed sites with free-draining soil. It’s an ideal choice for low-maintenance planting schemes in sun-drenched areas where water may be limited.

Buying Alpines from Jacksons Nurseries
At Jacksons Nurseries we lightly trim back our alpines after flowering to ensure that the plants remain neat and tidy whilst in the pot. The more tender the plant the less we cut back to help protect exposed stems from winter frost. Depending on the plant variety we will then prune back further in spring once the risk of the more severe frosts is over.
As a result, depending on the time of year you buy alpines, they may not look like images showing their ‘prime time’ in flower and looking at their best.

From late autumn onwards and dependant on variety, there may be very little visible above the soil except for a few cut back dormant leaves or stems. It is perfectly normal for dormant plants to look like this from autumn onwards, they will however burst back into life in spring.
Alpines are a group of perennials that generally grow in rocky conditions at high altitudes.
As for all plants, soil preparation is time well spent. Dig over the area to be planted ensuring that the ground is free draining. If not then you may wish to either consider planting in a different spot or raising the level of the planting area by adding additional topsoil, well rotted garden compost and/or well rotted manure. Add ‘Fish, Blood and Bone’ fertiliser or a high potash fertiliser to encourage good root growth and development.
It’s always a good idea to plant a few of the same plant together, we recommend planting in 3’s or 5’s to provide a bold effect but allowing them plenty of room to develop.
By using this simple guide and a little time, alpines can make an absolutely spectacular difference to your garden.
