Raspberry (Rubus idaeus) 'Glen Lyon' is a healthy, floricane, self-fertile, thornless deciduous raspberry that produces extremely good yields of large, rounded, glossy fruit that's consistently fine-flavoured and ready for picking in early June. Raspberry 'Glen Lyon' is a relatively new variety that's excellent for culinary use and makes a reasonable dessert fruit that's suitable for freezing.
To harvest the raspberries, grasp each berry carefully with thumb and forefinger, and pull gently. If it doesn't separate from the plug easily, without squashing the fruit, it isn't ready for picking. Widely grown across Europe, it was originally developed in Scotland but proved to be most successful when grown in Spain. Primocane varieties produce flowers and fruit on stems grown in the same year. Most Autumn fruiting varieties are primocanes. Summer fruiting varieties are usually Floricane raspberries which have stems that grow for one year before bearing fruit and flowers.
Our potted raspberries contain 3 raspberry canes per pot however they cannot be split if purchased in season and should be treated as a single plant.
Plants can be divided in the dormant season (Nov-March) if there is a requirement to replant.
Buying Fruit Trees/Bushes from Jacksons Nurseries
Our trees might be Freshly Potted and the root system may not be fully established, and loose soil may occur when unpacking.
Unlike many garden centres, supermarkets and some nurseries here at Jacksons Nurseries we sell the majority of our stock all year round. Our stock is for the most part grown outdoors making it far hardier than those grown under glass and/or only sold ‘In Season’.
Here at Jacksons Nurseries we would favour a hardy outdoor grown plant every time. They are far less likely to suffer from the shock of being planted in colder conditions and they will begin to establish more rapidly the following spring. This can mean that they don’t look like a ‘picture perfect’ plant when purchased out of season but with the correct care and a little time you’ll have a wonderful plant to enjoy for many years to come.
