Easy to grow bamboo plants
Bamboo are architectural plants perfect for adding structure, height and movement to your garden – with the added benefit of being easy to grow for novice gardeners, either in the border or containers. They have hollow evergreen stems (sometimes called “culms”) with lush evergreen foliage that can be used to add a tropical effect, style and movement to any garden. Available in a wide range of sizes from huge tropicals to tiny dwarfs, they work well in a variety of settings, including as focal points or to create a windbreak or screen. Bamboo plants come in two main forms: clumping-forming and running bamboos. Clumping bamboos spread more slowly, similar to ornamental grasses. They can be used effectively for ornamental or rock gardens or as container grown plants; look for Fargesia and Pleioblastus varieties such as Fargesia Simba and Pleioblastus Distichus. Running bamboos, on the other hand, can be extremely vigorous, making them well suited for creating a spreading windbreak or hedge - we recommend planting them inside a root barrier to prevent them from spreading to unwanted parts of the garden. Running bamboos include Phyllostachys and Sasa with black bamboo, golden bamboo and Sasa varieties being popular choices.
