Crocus Bulbs
Crocus are one of the best known flower bulbs, bringing a fabulous burst of colour to your outdoor spaces in spring and autumn. Drifts of their beautiful yellows, white and purple blooms provide a delightful display from late winter onwards. They’ll also provide an important source of pollen and nectar for pollinating insects such as bees, butterflies and hoverflies just as they’re merging from hibernation. Native to Eastern Europe, Crocus are effective planted in the border, containers and particularly well suited to naturalising grasses areas. They prefer a moist yet well drained soil and should be planted at a depth three times the depth of the bulb. Bulbs are like a little battery with the flower and the leaves right in the middle – allow the foliage to fully die back naturally after flowering to allow them to “recharge” for the following year.
