At a Glance

'Katy' is a vigorous deciduous tree, with deep scarlet coloured apples with a juicy and refreshing flavour. The fruit is small to medium in size and the tree is hardy and healthy. White flowers appear in spring, and the fruit is ready to harvest from early autumn. Fruits are suitable for eating, baking and also for cider production. Its blossoms are also an excellent feature, often rivalling those of any nearby crab apples!

Due to its tolerance of cold temperatures and higher rainfall, it is good choice for growing in more Northern parts of the UK. It is a reliable cropper and an excellent choice for those who are new to growing apples.

Root Stock: MM106

Pollination group: B. Self-sterile.

Note: 2 year+ stock with established heads not 1 year maidens.

This variety is not self-fertile, so it will require a nearby pollinator. Suitable pollinators are:

Apple domestica 'Discovery'
Apple domestica 'Egremont Russet'
Apple domestica 'James Grieve'
Apple domestica 'Spartan'
Apple domestica 'Charles Ross'
Apple domestica 'Cox's Orange Pippin'
Apple domestica 'Grenadier'
Apple domestica 'Golden Delicious'

Buying Fruit Trees/Bushes from Jacksons Nurseries

Unlike many garden centres, supermarkets and some nurseries here at Jacksons Nurseries we sell the majority of our stock all year round. Our stock is for the most part grown outdoors making it far hardier than those grown under glass and/or only sold ‘In Season’.

Here at Jacksons Nurseries we would favour a hardy outdoor grown plant every time. They are far less likely to suffer from the shock of being planted in colder conditions and they will begin to establish more rapidly the following spring. This can mean that they don’t look like a ‘picture perfect’ plant when purchased out of season but with the correct care and a little time you’ll have a wonderful plant to enjoy for many years to come.
