The unique bright cherry-pink flowers with white centers rise elegantly atop pleasantly aromatic, semi-evergreen, mid-green fern-like foliage that makes this yarrow particularly impressive for cottage gardens and naturalistic displays, representing traditional garden excellence with modern water-wise gardening benefits. The flowers repeat without interruption from summer through early fall, creating sustained displays with vigorous regrowth, providing essential nectar sources when butterflies and beneficial insects need them most. The delightfully aromatic ferny foliage enhances the spectacular visual impact, creating memorable garden experiences that complement both formal landscape designs and wildlife-friendly garden schemes.

Key Features

The outstanding appeal of 'Cerise Queen' lies in its flattened heads of bright cerise flowers held high on tall stems, hovering above and contrasting beautifully with the ferny grey-green foliage. Each flower cluster displays beautifully formed flat-topped structure with dense bundles of tiny flowers arranged in impressive umbel formation, featuring brilliant cerise-pink colour with creamy white centres in magnificent arrangements that create displays of exceptional beauty and cottage garden charm. The distinctive cerise colour fades to pale pink, sometimes even white as the flowers age, providing enchanting displays that maintain their sophisticated appeal throughout the extended flowering season, creating spectacular visual richness that symbolises garden tradition and wildlife conservation. The aromatic foliage is a real bonus, with delightfully fragrant ferny leaves covering the plant throughout the growing season. The delicate, lace-like flowers are perfect for fresh bouquets or can be dried for long-lasting floral arrangements, creating memorable garden experiences that enhance both cottage garden applications and cutting garden enjoyment with traditional colour sophistication and luxurious aromatic charm.

Growth Characteristics

The easy-growing habit forms low mounds of fragrant ferny foliage, with clusters of flowers appearing on upright stems, making this variety particularly valuable for mixed borders, cottage gardens, and garden applications where reliable flowering coverage and naturalistic impact are essential. The aromatic grey-green ferny leaves are produced abundantly and create an exceptionally attractive backdrop that perfectly complements the cerise bloom colours whilst maintaining excellent vigour and distinctive appeal. The well-established clump-forming growth habit of this delightful 60-75cm perennial ensures reliable flowering whilst creating substantial visual impact that fits perfectly into cottage garden settings, with the manageable size making it ideal for mixed borders, cutting gardens, and prominent locations where its distinguished beauty and wildlife value can be fully appreciated.

Flowering Performance

Throughout the extended season, 'Cerise Queen' delivers exceptional flowering displays that continue reliably from summer through early fall without interruption. The plant produces abundant clusters of cerise-pink blooms consistently throughout the season, creating impressive visual impact with exceptional performance that ensures ongoing garden distinction and vital wildlife support. The individual flower clusters develop with vibrant pink formation, and pruning back dead or faded flowers promotes a second blooming and maintains a compact shape, whilst the exceptionally generous cluster size ensures impressive presence for extended periods throughout the growing season. The vigorous repeat flowering nature with excellent regrowth characteristics ensures magnificent displays throughout the season, with the ongoing rich blooms providing persistent focal points that enhance garden spaces with their distinctive colour palette and wildlife magnetism.

Growing Conditions

'Cerise Queen' thrives in nearly any sunny situation, even where there is poor soil, growing best in full sun with well-drained soils whilst tolerating partial shade for optimal performance and colour development. The yarrow becomes drought tolerant once established and performs brilliantly in mixed borders, cottage gardens, and contemporary garden spaces where the cerise colours can create maximum visual impact. For best results, plant in sunny locations with good drainage and adequate space for the mature size, as this variety requires excellent drainage to prevent winter rot. Achillea prefer well-drained soil and can suffer during very wet winters, whilst the manageable size makes it particularly suitable for various garden situations where its wildlife qualities and cerise colour intensity can be celebrated with excellent drought tolerance once established.

Hardiness and Disease Resistance

'Cerise Queen' demonstrates excellent resilience characteristics with reliable performance in UK growing conditions, maintaining healthy growth throughout the season with outstanding vigour and remarkable drought tolerance. This winter hardy yarrow is perennial in Zones 3-11, making it exceptionally dependable for gardeners seeking reliable plantings and wildlife support with excellent cold tolerance. The distinctive aromatic ferny foliage remains attractive and vigorous with good disease resistance, making it an excellent choice for gardeners seeking dependable plantings with manageable maintenance requirements. The hardy nature ensures consistent performance across different growing conditions and seasonal changes, supporting reliable colour development and flowering performance throughout the extended flowering period.

Care and Maintenance

'Cerise Queen' benefits from pruning back dead or faded flowers to promote a second blooming and maintain a compact shape, as it blooms on new growth throughout the season. Apply balanced perennial fertiliser in early spring, though established plants require minimal feeding due to their excellent drought tolerance and adaptability to poor soils. The good disease resistance and drought tolerance mean this variety requires minimal intervention with standard care practices, making it ideal for gardeners seeking reliable plantings with distinguished wildlife impact. Cut the plant down to the ground after the first killing frost to maintain garden tidiness, whilst the self-seeding nature may require management if unwanted spread is a concern, though this characteristic adds to its naturalistic garden value.

Garden Applications

'Cerise Queen' excels in cottage garden displays, mixed borders, and naturalistic features where its traditional beauty and manageable proportions can be fully appreciated. The brilliant cerise-pink colour makes it ideal for cottage garden schemes, cutting gardens, and prairie-style landscapes where distinctive colour impact and wildlife support are essential. Perfect for sunny spots and makes a great partner for ornamental grasses, this yarrow provides outstanding cut flowers that enhance floral arrangements with vibrant colour for special occasions and informal displays. The flowers can be dried for long-lasting floral arrangements, whilst the reliable growth and exceptional flowering performance make it particularly suitable for creating stunning displays in cottage gardens, where its distinctive colour creates spectacular garden interest and vital wildlife habitat.

Wildlife Value

'Cerise Queen' is exceptional for attracting pollinators such as butterflies and bees, serving as both nectar source and wildlife habitat with this variety providing significant wildlife resources. The umbels of flowers are beloved by parasitic wasps and are a major attraction for miner and mason bees, as well as sweat bees and pollinating beetles. The extended flowering period from May to August provides crucial nectar sources when many other plants have finished blooming, making it invaluable for supporting wildlife throughout the garden season. Butterflies are drawn to yarrow flower stalks as a resting site and often accidentally participate in the pollinating process, whilst bird lovers can provide cavity-nesting birds with this highly valued source of nesting foliage, making it perfect for wildlife gardens, nature reserves, and cottage spaces where substantial wildlife support and visual appeal can be provided with traditional garden sophistication.

Seasonal Interest

Throughout the growing season, 'Cerise Queen' provides exceptional seasonal interest with extended displays and outstanding wildlife performance. Spring brings the emergence of fresh aromatic ferny foliage and strong new vigorous growth, building anticipation for the main spectacular flowering display. The magnificent cerise-pink blooms from early summer into early autumn provide months of distinctive colour that maintains its cottage garden appeal throughout the season, creating consistent sophisticated impact and vital wildlife support. The attractive aromatic ferny foliage remains healthy throughout summer and autumn, providing perfect backdrop for the flower displays, whilst the manageable clumping structure provides attractive garden interest and valuable wildlife habitat year-round.

Fragrance Profile

'Cerise Queen' features pleasantly aromatic foliage that will delightfully enhance the garden experience, with the ferny leaves providing subtle herbal fragrance that complements the distinguished visual display and enhances both garden atmosphere and traditional appeal. The aromatic foliage adds cottage garden authenticity whilst making this yarrow particularly valuable for positions near pathways and seating areas where both visual beauty and aromatic interest are desired for outdoor living. The foliage is edible and can be brewed into a delightful tea, enhancing garden atmosphere and making this variety suitable for areas where traditional herbal garden charm contributes to the garden experience, particularly near entertaining spaces where the aromatic foliage creates lasting distinguished impressions and attracts beneficial wildlife throughout summer evenings.

Buying Perennials from Jacksons Nurseries

At Jacksons Nurseries we lightly trim back our perennials after flowering and trim them back at the end of the season to ensure that the plants remain neat and tidy whilst in the pot. The more tender the plant the less we cut back to help protect exposed stems from winter frost. Depending on the plant variety we will then prune back further in spring once the risk of the more severe frosts is over.

As a result, depending on the time of year you buy perennials, they may not look like images showing their ‘prime time’ in flower and looking at their best.

From late autumn onwards and dependent on variety, there may be very little visible above the soil except for a few cut back dormant leaves or stems. It is perfectly normal for dormant plants to look like this from autumn onwards, they will however burst back into life in spring.

Availability: Stock availability figures are provided as a guide only. There is a delay between orders being placed and the plants being gathered by our pulling team. During this time it may be possible for a member of the public to purchase these plants from our Garden Centre, while this is rare it is a possibility and we will notify you of any problems as soon as possible. This figure may also include plants that have not yet be flagged as unsaleable.

Pre-order: Pre-order times are given as a guide only and may vary dependent on the growing season. Orders containing Pre-ordered products will be shipped as a single order when all items become available. Perennials are described and classified differently by different gardeners but all would agree that they are plants that come into flower every year from early spring to late summer, the exact time dependent on variety and most die back to ground level in autumn and winter.

As for all plants, soil preparation is time well spent. Dig over the area to be planted ensuring that the ground is free draining. If not then you may wish to either consider planting in a different spot or raising the level of the planting area by adding additional topsoil, well rotted garden compost and/or well rotted manure. Add ‘Fish, Blood and Bone’ fertiliser or a high potash fertiliser to encourage good root growth and development.

It’s always a good idea to plant a few of the same plant together, we recommend planting in 3’s or 5’s to provide a bold effect but allowing them plenty of room to develop.

Always check eventual plant heights when planning borders to ensure that the taller plants are at the back (or at the centre of an island bed) followed by the medium and then smaller low growing plants.

Remember to deadhead perennials after flowering, trim back lightly in autumn as required to tidy the border and if necessary trim again in spring once the risk of heavy frost has passed.

If perennials get too big, start to flower less and less or if it seems to be dying off from the centre, consider dividing the plant but always check that the particular variety is happy to be divided and that you divide at the right time of year for the plant.

By using this simple guide and a little time, perennials can make an absolutely spectacular difference to your garden.
