Tilia platyphyllos rubra
AKA Red-twigged lime
Red-twigged lime, or Tilia platyphyllos Rubra, is an interesting variety of lime tree with bright reddy-brown young shoots which look particularly spectacular in the depth of the winter when the rest of the garden is looking bare. It has a columnar growth habit with a more upright shape than other limes and beautiful autumnal foliage colours in shades of golden-yellow and subtle orange. Winner of the RHS Award of Garden Merit in 2002, limes are tolerant of a wide range of soil types and just need plenty of space to reach their full potential. Eventual height is 14-16 metres.
