Quercus robur
AKA Common Oak
Native to lowland forests, Oak trees are a treasured nationally throughout the UK. These majestic trees have distinctive, deeply-lobed, glossy green leaves which remain on the plant long into the autumn after turning beautiful shades of coppery-brown. In autumn, they are covered in acorns which are well-loved by squirrels and other wildlife. Oaks are a common sight in public parklands and large gardens – we think any large garden should have at least one oak tree if space permits. Quercus robur are also the quintessential avenue tree, a timeless classic that bring calm, tranquillity and significant ecological benefit. Large-growing, reaching a mature height of 20 metres.
