Topiary lollipop plants
The lollipop is a classic topiary shape, perfect for bringing a sense of style and architectural flair to enhance your outdoor space. They’re most commonly used symmetrically either side of a doorway but also work well flanking a step of steps or start of a path. Topiary lollipops in containers are effective for small patios or balconies where ground space is more limited and they can be used singly to create stylish focal points on the garden, perhaps helping to delineate different areas of your outdoor space. Lollipops are created by grafting a compact, dense, slow-growing evergreen shrub variety atop of a rootstock with a tall, straight stem. This means they maintain their form more easily and have to be clipped less frequently. Topiary lollipops, also known as topiary standards, are measured by the length of the clear stem. Full standards are classed as anything with a clear stem of 1.8 metres plus (large for topiary), half standards are 80-100cm (around 3 feet) with smaller sizes sometimes referred to as quarter standards or mini standards. They should be clipped once or twice a year to preserve their shape and maintain a compact, dense growth habit. The best time to prune is in mid-June when the leaves are hardened and not likely to suffer from bruising. We pride ourselves on offering topiary that has been carefully maintained and hand-trimmed to deliver the best specimens.
