Round conifer plants (globe / ball shaped)
Conifers are perfect for adding colour, shape and texture to your borders and containers. There are a number of excellent varieties that naturally develop into a rounded, globe or ball shape, around as wide as they are tall and often with rich foliage colours. Many of these more rounded growers are of the Thuja, or white cedar, variety with glossy evergreen foliage held in flattened sprays in a miniature fan-like appearance, similar to Leylandii but slower growing. One of our favourites is Thuja Golden Globe which forms a rounded, globular shape when allowed to grow naturally. The compact and slightly twisted sprays of soft yellow foliage make an attractive dome which can be used as a foundation plant or slow-growing hedge. Thuja Rheingold has a similar shape and makes a lovely addition to a golden-themed border with finely-patterned, scale-like foliage which is orange-tipped when young, brightening to a rich golden-yellow in the summer.
