Sedum is an evergreen perennial with unusually shaped, thick, succulent leaves and fleshy stems. It produces short panicles of star-shaped flowers in tight clusters, usually in summer or autumn depending on the variety. Sedums are easy to grow, thriving in full sun in unfertile, dry soils - commonly known as Stonecrop as many gardeners joke that only stones need less care and live longer. Grown for their colourful foliage and flowers, Stonecrops low growth habit makes them perfect for using as groundcover plants. They also look stunning cascaded over the edge of a container, rocks or walls to soften their appearance and help to attract butterflies and bees to the garden.
