Plant Pot Size Guide

The majority of plants sold online by Jacksons Nurseries come potted in pots of various sizes. Most pot sizes are referred to by their volume capacity in litres, with the exception of pots that are smaller than 1 Litre which are usually refereed to by the diameter of the top of the pot.

The table below gives the approximate measurements of the common pot sizes we use at Jacksons Nurseries. Sizes are only a guide as the exact measurements vary depending on pot manufactures.

All afternoon I've been looking for somewhere that tells me what size, as in diameter, a 10 litre pot is. This is a terrific table, it not only gives diameter at the top but other measurements too. Brilliant. Thank you.
If my plant grows 1m x 1m what size pot do I need?
How many kilos is needed to a polyethylene bag size 8x8x14.. Thankyou
Would be useful to have the appropriate tray size to go with the pot size.
Spot on, thanks guys

@ Lucia - thanks so much Lucia!
This is really good information, have always wondered what size the various pots were

@ Suzi - thanks Suzi, glad you found it useful.
it is fantastic now I know exact how much soil I need.

@ Miladasimak - thanks for the feedback, glad you found this helpful.
Do you have Euphorbia amygdaloides var Robbie wood spurg in stock

@ Viv - Hi Viv - we don't stock that particular variety but we do sell a wide range of other Euphorbia plants - please see this page for our range:
This is so useful. So often growers suggest volumes and not pot sizes. Thank you so much.

@ Vicky - thanks so much Vicky, we appreciate the feedback.
Why can’t nurseries just say how tall a tree is instead of using a litre pot I don’t so much care about the litre under ground it’s so silly a conifer in a one litre pot is how tall as opposed to one in a 3 litre pot?! So irritating

@ Jimmy - thanks for your feedback. We appreciate your frustration and sometimes try to show plant heights for e.g. bare root plants and hedging. The difficulty we and other nurseries have is we grow or buy plants from suppliers by pot size and it's often difficult to reliably give an indication of height, which may vary throughout the year or depend on how long the plant has been grown on within the pot. Herbaceous perennials, for example, die back below ground each winter before bursting back into life again in the spring. Similarly, many fast growing bamboo plants in a particular pot size can put on 45cm+ of growth in a season, so their height can be very different in the same size pot depending on when they are bought over the course of the year or gardening season. That said, we take your comments on board and will try to show supplied heights as much as possible on our website going forward.
