Plant Pot Size Guide

The majority of plants sold online by Jacksons Nurseries come potted in pots of various sizes. Most pot sizes are referred to by their volume capacity in litres, with the exception of pots that are smaller than 1 Litre which are usually refereed to by the diameter of the top of the pot.

The table below gives the approximate measurements of the common pot sizes we use at Jacksons Nurseries. Sizes are only a guide as the exact measurements vary depending on pot manufactures.

Why can’t nurseries just say how tall a tree is instead of using a litre pot I don’t so much care about the litre under ground it’s so silly a conifer in a one litre pot is how tall as opposed to one in a 3 litre pot?! So irritating

Hi I am looking to buy 2 Japanese trees in pots I don’t want big ones what do you recommend . It is for back garden which gets no sun in morning but sun in afternoon xxx

@ Pasquale - we supply Golden Alder trees (Latin name Alnus incana 'Aurea') in 10-15 litre pots. These are quite mature trees with a 120-150cm stem, priced at £34.99. We also sell bare root common Alder as young trees between November and March. what size is the plant when it is sold by the size of the pot, i.e., 1 x 3.5 litre potted XXX plant

Hi Jean, the size varies from plant to plant and the season so it's best to enquire on a particular plant(s) when you want to make a purchase.

Why on Earth can’t pot manufacturers print the size of the pot on the side of it. Or I press it into the plastic?
