'Lapins Cherokee' is a reliable, self-fertile cherry tree producing large, sweet dark red fruits that taste delicious! It produces a bountiful crop of cherries on its own and also makes a good pollination for other fruit trees nearby. Falling into pollination group D, it will make a good pollination partner for other fruit trees in pollination groups C, D and E. Winner of the RHS award of garden merit, it will flower in mid to late April depending on the weather conditions and produce a fruit crop that will have ripened by late July. 'Lapins Cherokee' cherry trees often drop lots of fruit while the cherries are still green, which is normal. Hold out and you will still get a good crop in the end. It grows best in full sun in a rich soil that is free draining. Do not plant on ground that lies wet. As cherry trees are targets for birds, it makes sense to net your fruit to protect it if you're looking to enjoy the crop yourself.
Buying Fruit Trees/Bushes from Jacksons Nurseries
Our trees might be Freshly Potted and the root system may not be fully established, and loose soil may occur when unpacking.
Unlike many garden centres, supermarkets and some nurseries here at Jacksons Nurseries we sell the majority of our stock all year round. Our stock is for the most part grown outdoors making it far hardier than those grown under glass and/or only sold ‘In Season’.
Here at Jacksons Nurseries we would favour a hardy outdoor grown plant every time. They are far less likely to suffer from the shock of being planted in colder conditions and they will begin to establish more rapidly the following spring. This can mean that they don’t look like a ‘picture perfect’ plant when purchased out of season but with the correct care and a little time you’ll have a wonderful plant to enjoy for many years to come.
