Holly topiary plants

Holly can make excellent topiary plants, particularly in ‘lollipop’ style as quarter or half standard trees with a globular head. Common holly topiary plants look particularly beautiful and festive when in berry at Christmas time and over the winter. If you’re lucky, the foliage will be studded with clusters of rich, glossy red berries as you welcome guests into he home over the holiday period. Variegated holly lollipop trees with glossy green leaves beautifully edged creamy yellow are also highly effective and as holly is slow growing, they’ll only need trimming occasionally to keep them looking ship-shape. Japanese holly, also known by the Latin name Ilex crenata, make fabulous topiary balls too and are the best alternative to box topiary balls if you’re concerned about box blight.
