Nandina plants
Nandina plants, also known as heavenly bamboo or sacred bamboo, are exquisite evergreen or semi-evergreen shrubs producing dainty, airy sprays of blooms in shades spanning whites to pale reds throughout the summer, followed by glossy autumn berries. Nandina offers genuine year-round colour and interest as the foliage takes on fiery bronze hues in autumn but stays on the plant through the winter, accompanied by the berries which are a feast for the birds. Despite the name, heavenly bamboo is not a bamboo but rather a member of the berberis family – meaning it is not invasive as some running bamboos can be. Low maintenance, well suited to urban, contemporary or jungle-style planting schemes and suitable for growing in pots and containers on the patio. Grow in full sun and trim to shape in early spring.
