Late flowering perennials

Late flowering perennials keep the garden blooming through the autumn, right up to the first frost, extending the season of colour when many summer flowers are starting to fade. Late perennials are a must-have for every mixed border and flower bed and combine well with wispy grasses in container displays. Asters are one of the best autumn flowering perennials with their daisy-like flowers in a range of bright and pastel colours, particularly well suited to informal cottage garden designs. Agastache perennials have a tall, upright habit and fuzzy violet flower spikes, while sedums produce masses of star-shaped blooms in shades of pinks, reds, whites and yellows above succulent foliage. Be sure to deadhead faded flowers to encourage a fresh flush of blooms lasting until the beginning of winter.
