Easy to grow shrubs

Our collection of easy to grow shrubs are ideal to create the backbone of your shrub and mixed borders. We’ve specifically chosen these varieties because they’re unfussy, easy to grow, generally untroubled by pests and diseases and will largely take care of themselves once established. Shrubs form the foundation of most gardens and planting schemes, adding shape and structure in addition to a wide range of ornamental features. They are a highly varied and versatile group, distinguished from trees by their multiple stems and shorter height. When looking for shrubs, consider whether you want evergreen varieties (keep their leaves all year round) or deciduous varieties (drop their leaves in the autumn). We actually recommend a mix of the two so you get both the autumnal seasonal interest of deciduous varieties without your garden looking too sparse through the winter. Also try to incorporate a mix of varieties with different seasonal features throughout the year, such as flowers, berries, fruit, attractive bark and vibrant foliage. Shrubs grown in pots can be planted all year round – this is how most of our shrubs are supplied, unless otherwise stated. Bare root and root balled shrubs should be planted between mid-October and the end of March, except for rootballed evergreens which can be planted until early May.
