  • Nordman Fir Slim Shape Fresh Cut Christmas trees - slimmer than the typical Nordman Fir, perfect for smaller spaces. Carefully pruned to maintain a compact, symmetrical tree that's still bushy and 'full' to the top of the tree.
  • Lodgepole Pine Fresh Cut Christmas Tree - if you’re looking for something different to the norm, the Lodgepole Pine has a striking appearance with upright branches and beautiful long needles. The name ‘Lodgepole’ comes from the way these trees were used as the main structure for lodges and teepees, build initially by native Americans and later by Europeans.

Benefits of a Real Christmas Tree

  • Appearance - real Christmas trees look natural and continue the Christmas tradition that has been running since pagan times. In contrast, artificial trees can look phoney and synthetic. Britain’s favourite Christmas tree, the Nordman Fir, is a luxurious tree with thick, soft, glossy needles that are dark green on top with a beautiful silvery blue hue underneath, creating an interesting and dynamic two-tone appearance. The ‘traditional’ Christmas tree, the Norway Spruce, has a pyramid shape with spikey, lush green foliage that provide the perfect backdrop for festive decorations. Artificial Christmas trees lack the same visual appeal.

Real Christmas Tree Appearance

  • Fragrance – real Christmas trees bring a delicious balsam fragrance to your home, perfect for getting the whole family into the spirit of Christmas. Over the years, the Christmas tree has come to symbolise the faith and hope of harmony among all mankind, which is projected through the pleasant scent of a real Christmas tree. Norway Spruce offers a fresh, pine fragrance;  Fraser Fir trees combine strong needle retention with a delicious orange scent, while Noble Fir trees have a distinct, citrus fragrance, sometimes described as similar to yuzu, filling your home with a festive scent.

  • Help British Wildlife - our Christmas tree growing fields support a large ecology of wildlife, offering a safe haven for small mammals, insects and birds that seek refuge and sustenance among the trees. At Jacksons Nurseries, we plant Christmas trees as ‘draw trees’ with native trees grown in between the Christmas trees. As the Christmas trees are harvested, we leave the native species on some part of the Christmas tree growing area to develop into native English woodland.

Christmas Trees Good for Wildlife

  • Carbon Footprint - a single Christmas tree can absorb up to 1 ton of carbon dioxide over its life time, with one acre providing enough oxygen for 18 people every day. Real Christmas tree fields help slow-down the “greenhouse” effect and combat global warming. For every tree we cut, we plant two in its place. In contrast, most artificial Christmas trees are manufactured in China, typically made from plastic. The carbon footprint of not only the production process but also their transport across the globe is harmful to our planet. Per the Soil Association, a 2 metre artificial tree has a carbon footprint of 40kg.

  • Biodegradable - whilst most real Christmas trees are supplied cut and no longer truly living things, after Christmas they are fully biodegradable. They will decompose and return their nutrients to the ground that nurtured them. In contrast, artificial trees are made with harmful chemicals such as metal and polyvinyl chloride (PVC). PVC is a non-biodegradable, petroleum-based plastic which produces carcinogens like dioxin, ethylene dichloride and vinyl chloride in the manufacturing process. Because the plastic fibres of artificial trees are glued to a metal frame they cannot be recycled, so after their average useful life of 8 years they'll then lie clogging up landfill sites, forever taking up increasingly scarce landfill space.
