Beetroot Seeds
Beetroot is one of the quintessential English root vegetables that deserves a place in every vegetable patch up and down the UK. Beetrot is popular in salads, either pickled or fresh, and can also be roasted, making it perfect for expanding the variety of colours in a hearty meal or side dish. Beetroot seeds can be sown every couple of weeks for a continuous harvest over several months from July onwards. Beetroot Boltardy is our most popular variety with fabulous internal colouring and good resistance to bolting. Alternatively, Beetroot Monika is a monogerm variety, meaning it does not need to be thinned, which is delicious as young baby beets and similarly slow to bolt. For a real varied mix of colour, choose our Beetroot Gourmet Mix seed packs, producing white, purple and red beets that are rich in vitamins and may be eaten raw, roasted or boiled. Thinnings of all varieties may be used as baby leaf salad. Our harvesting tip with beets is to twist the tops off the roots, rather than cutting them, as this prevents ‘bleeding’.
