Sweet Pea Flower Seeds

Sweet peas are care-free climbing annuals well-loved for bringing a delicious sweet fragrance to gardens, clambering over arches, planted around obelisks or simply scrambling up a wire fence. Sweet peas make delightful cut flowers with their distinctive blooms and by sowing every couple of weeks you’ll get a regular supply of beautiful blooms! Sweet peas are probably the UK’s favourite hardy annual with a large selection of varieties available, including multi-coloured, striped and marbled blooms. They fall into three different groups: grandiflora, modern grandiflora and spencer types. Grandiflora are the heritage varieties of sweet peas dating back to the 1800s with smaller flowers but a strong fragrance. Spencer types comprise varieties bred more recently for their larger, flamboyant, often frilly flowers, available in a wide range of colours with a good but lighter scent. Modern grandiflora are the most recent introductions, bred to combine spencer types with grandiflora varieties to offer the sought-after combination of strong scent, larger flowers and longer stems. Soak seeds in water the night before sowing or, alternatively, gently rub one side of the seed coat with an abrasive material such as a file.
