Privet plants

Ligustrum, more commonly known as privet plants, have clothed countless urban plots in green for generations, resistant to dense shade, pollution and salt-laden air. Most commonly grown for hedging, they are semi-evergreen with luscious, oval dark-green foliage that clips beautifully to create a dense and neat form that thrives in most positions and soil conditions. It has the benefit of being fast growing, quickly creating a close-knit hedge or screen that’s effective for improving privacy, sheltering your garden from the wind and reducing noise. Privet will grow 30-60cm (1-2 feet) taller each year and ultimately reach 2-4 metres, depending on the variety, although it can be maintained at any height you require. They produce inconspicuous white flowers in June and July, which are generally trimmed off, followed by black berries in autumn. It can experience some leaf fall in colder weather, particularly whilst establishing, hence the semi-evergreen classification. Trim twice over the summer growing season to maintain its shape and form.
