Lonicera shrubs (shrubby honeysuckle)

Lonicera shrubs, also known as shrubby honeysuckle plants, are a mix of evergreen and deciduous bushes, some upright growers, some with a lower or more open habit. They typically produce small, often richly fragrant flowers in winter or spring, generally creamy-white but sometimes lilac, pink or yellow. They are well suited to the woodland garden, while evergreen forms can be used to create a low hedge or screen. They’re generally unfussy, growing well in any free draining soil in full sun or partial shade, just avoid wet soils as they will not succeed with wet feet and rarely flower in shade. Our top tip is to under-plant shrubby honeysuckles with spring-flowering bulbs to provide an extra burst of colour in late winter to early spring. You may wish to look at our climbing honeysuckle plants too. The climbing varieties are well suited to covering bare or unsightly parts of the garden.
