Large growing rhododendron plants
We've hand-picked a selection of larger and tall growing rhododendrons, best suited to medium and large-sized gardens. These varieties will reach a height of between 1.5 metres and 2.5 metres, typically with a spread of around the same. Like all rhododendrons, they are acrid-loving, spring-flowering plants which have been synonymous with woodland-style planting schemes for decades. These large growers have the biggest, most showy blooms of all rhododendrons, available in a range of colours spanning purples, reds, yellows, pinks and whites, produced above spirally-arranged, leathery evergreen leaves. They prefer a sheltered spot in a moist, acidic soil with dappled shade, protected from cold, drying winds. Easy to grow providing they're given the right soil and location, they're particularly well suited to informal, woodland-style or naturalistic planting schemes. Water using rain water where possible, especially in hard water areas where tap-water contains calcium that will neutralise their preferred acidic soil. Dead head faded flowers to encourage a second flush of fresh blooms.
