Perovskia plants
Perovskia plants, commonly known as Russian Sage, are handsome deciduous perennial shrubs producing masses of delightful pale lavender-purple flower spikes above branching, silvery grey-green stems. It’s informal appearance makes it well suited to the cottage garden or casual borders, while the nectar-rich flowers are perfect for attracting bees, butterflies, hoverflies and other beneficial insects to your outdoor space. Russian Sage makes a perfect addition to a herbaceous or mixed borders, particularly amongst a cool, calming colour scheme of blues, violets and pale greens or, alternatively, used as a contrast to brighter flowering perennials or shrubs such as echinacea, coneflowers and eryngiums. Grow in full sun in a well drained soil and prune back hard to the woody framework (10cm above the ground) each year in mid spring to encourage strong new growth and masses of flowers.
