Liatris plants
Liatris is a beautiful late-summer flowering perennial producing tall, long-lasting spikes of fuzzy, thistle-like blooms in shades of violet-purple, rose pink and white. These are produced above a mass of lush, strappy grass-like foliage which remains green throughout the growing season before becoming bronze-tinted in autumn. Native to North America and commonly known as blazing star or gayfeather, Liatris are versatile and easy to grow, well suited to flower beds, mixed borders, the cutting garden, informal planting schemes and containers. Their nectar-rich, wand-like flowers are perfect for attracting wildlife such as bees, butterflies and hoverflies into the garden and their long, straight flowering stems are ideal for cut flower arrangements, either fresh or dried. Ideal for adding vertical form to your garden designs, blazing star grows from corms, thriving in sun to light shade in a moist yet well drained, moderately fertile soil. Incorporate a little slow release granular feed into the planting hole and lift and divide congested clumps in spring if required.
