Allium plants
Allium plants are ornamental onions that are bold, architectural and easy to grow with large, spherical purple flowers from May to June, followed by attractive seed-heads. Available in a range of colours, the "pom pom" flowers are produced above thin, cylindrical bright green foliage with a light onion fragrance. Alliums have a clump forming growth habit, normally reaching less than a metre tall, and prefer a relatively dry soil. Contrasting beautifully with yellow euphorbia plants and orange flowering Geums, they also make a great accompaniment to wispy grasses and can be weaved through sunny borders to create a stunning casual effect.
