Variegated Japanese maple trees
Native to Japan and China, Japanese Maples are slow-growing, deciduous trees best known for their graceful, dome-shaped growth habit, distinctive leaf shapes and stunning autumn colour. We've picked the best variegated varieties with multi-coloured leaves, sometimes around the edges of each leaf, other times in bold blotches. These intricate trees are guaranteed to turn heads with their stunning shades of fiery oranges, reds, shrimp pinks and creamy-whites. Variegated Japanese maples are best grown in partial shade to prevent their foliage being scorched by the afternoon sun. They prefer a spot with a free-draining soil and plenty of space where they will not have to complete with other plants around them. The smaller-growing varieties in this range are also highly effective in containers, using a John Innes No. 2 potting compost mixed with 25% sharp sand or grit to improve drainage.
