Stipa plants

Stipa is a beautiful, versatile, semi-evergreen ornamental grass with light, wispy pale yellow-green foliage topped with fluffy, silvery-green flower plumes, fading to an equally attractive buff-blonde as the season progresses. It has a tufted, clump-forming growth habit with pleated, rolled or linear leaves which act as the perfect backdrop to the feathery or bristle-like blooms. Stipa is perfect for bringing a sense of calm and serenity to informal planting schemes as it luscious foliage gently rustles in the breeze. Commonly known as Mexican feather grass or Texas needle grass, it is well suited to a sunny, informal border, preferring a fairly dry, well-drained soil. Stipa is perfect for adding architectural flair to city and courtyard gardens, succeeding in containers, as well as low maintenance flower beds, cottage and informal gardens. Comb through the plant (wearing gloves) to remove dead and faded foliage in early spring to keep stipa looking at its best for the coming season.
