Pampas grass plants

Pampas grass is a splendid, eye-catching grass producing large, feathery flower plumes held high above a dense clump of evergreen foliage from late summer through the winter. The flowers are a distinctive sight across many UK gardens and the large clumps of lush grass-like foliage is an architectural feat in itself once fully grown. Unfussy and easy to grow, pampas grass are fully hardy and tolerant of drought, wind and salt-laden air once established. Be mindful, though, that they need plenty of room to grow, are quite fast growing and may self-seed at the end of the growing season. They're perfect for the back of a mixed border, spacious  corners of a yard or around a pool or pond in an open, sunny position with a free-draining soil. Pampas grass' fluffy flower plumes contrasts well with purple-foliaged plants and combine well with shrubs or conifers with a more rounded or horizontal growth habit. Cut back old foliage and flowering stems each spring to maintain a tidy appearance and lift and divide between August and September if required. Please allow up to a few years for newly planted specimens to flower.
