Climbing plants with blue flowers

The most popular climbing plants with blue or bluey-purple blooms is wisteria. Wisteria are well renowned for their beautiful, long drooping clusters of blooms produced in abundance in spring and early summer above pinnate, deciduous, mid-green foliage. They look stunning trained up the front wall of country home – naturally, as a ‘twining’ climber, requiring wire supports to wind around. Wisteria also look particularly elegant draped from a sturdy pergola or archway, making a great addition to a Japanese or cottage garden and is best planted near pathways, doorways or entrances to fully appreciate the beautiful scent. Other excellent blue flowering climbers include Clematis Prince Charles, which is a group 3 clematis producing fabulous satin-sheen, mauve-blue single flowers from July to September with a compact and free flowering habit. Passion flower climbers also feature a prominent central decoration of purple-blue filaments in front of the fragrant white petals and will reward you with orange-yellow egg-shaped fruit after flowering in sheltered areas.
