Elaeagnus plants
Elaeagnus are versatile evergreen foliage plants, grown for their deep green or variegated foliage with young leaves and shoots having a metallic sheen. The green foliage of Elaeagnus Ebbingei has tiny silver spots with silvery-white undersides, creating a glimmering silvery effect, whilst Elaeagnus Maculata offers attractive, crudely blotched yellow-green variegation in the centre of the leaves. Commonly known as Oleaster, Elaeagnus work well as a colourful hedge or screen at exposed sites, standing up to harsh winds, salt spray and pollution. The speckled, slightly twisted branches and useful for flower arranging and variegated forms are perfect for brightening up the winter garden. They produce inconspicuous but highly scented flowers in autumn and create an excellent foil for showier flowering plants.
