Taylors Bulbs - Electric Onion Sets (50 sets)

Overview

Electric onion sets are a premium variety prized by home gardeners for their exceptional reliability and attractive golden-brown bulbs. These hardy sets produce medium to large onions with excellent storing qualities, making them an ideal choice for the everyday gardener looking to grow a dependable crop for year-round use.

Key Features

Electric onion sets offer outstanding resistance to bolting, ensuring your crop develops into full-sized bulbs rather than prematurely running to seed. The variety produces beautifully uniform, globe-shaped onions with a mild, sweet flavour that works perfectly in both raw and cooked dishes. Their attractive golden skin and firm white flesh make them as pleasing to the eye as they are to the palate.

Growing Conditions

These versatile onion sets thrive in well-drained soil enriched with organic matter. Choose a sunny position in your garden, as onions require good light to develop properly. Electric sets are particularly suited to spring planting, typically from March to April, though they can also be planted in autumn in milder regions. Space sets approximately 10cm apart in rows 25-30cm apart, pushing them gently into the soil so the tip just shows above the surface.

Care and Maintenance

Electric onion sets require minimal fussing once established. Keep the area weed-free, as onions don't compete well with other plants. Water during dry spells, but avoid overwatering as this can lead to disease. There's no need for additional feeding if your soil has been properly prepared. As the bulbs mature, you'll notice the foliage beginning to yellow and topple over naturally.

Harvesting and Storage

Expect to harvest your Electric onions from July through September, depending on planting time. Once the foliage has collapsed, lift the bulbs carefully with a fork and lay them out to dry in the sun for a few days. After drying thoroughly, store them in a cool, dry place with good air circulation. When properly cured, Electric onions will keep for several months, providing you with home-grown flavour well into winter.

Why Choose Electric?

For gardeners seeking a trouble-free onion variety that delivers consistent results, Electric sets are an excellent investment. Their bolt resistance means less disappointment, whilst their superior storage qualities ensure your efforts provide value long after harvest. Whether you're a novice grower or an experienced gardener, Electric onion sets offer the perfect combination of ease and performance.
