Rhododendron hedging plants
Shop our full range of rhododendron hedging plants, the ideal large-flowering evergreen hedge for an informal, woodland-style perimeter screen on acid soil. The name “rhododendron” is Greek and literally means “rose tree”, a fitting description of the spectacular, distinctive colourful blooms that make rhododendrons so popular. Rhododendrons produce these abundant flower clusters in spring above an impressive structure of spirally arranged large, leathery evergreen leaves. Of course, the ornamental value is very apparent, but rhododendrons can make a decent privacy screen too with some of the varieties on this page reaching up to 2 metres tall. Rhododendrons prefer a sheltered position in dappled shade and an acidic soil, lending themselves to informal plantings in woodland-style gardens. For vibrant purple, star-shaped flowers with orange detailing above the throat, choose Rhododendron Lees Dark Purple. Alternatively, Rhododendron Lord Roberts has a strong growing, upright habit, producing deep red, funnel shaped flowers with a dark throat.
