Leaf iconSowing Time

July - September

Leaf iconSowing Outdoors

Sow seed thinly in pre-watered shallow rows, and cover with a little soil. Keep soil moist at all times. As seedlings develop, thin them to about 2cm (1in) apart.

Leaf iconTransplanting

Plant out to their permanent positions in late autumn, allowing 30cm (12in) between plants and 45cm (18in) between rows of plants. The application of a high nitrogen fertiliser the following February is beneficial.

Leaf iconHarvest

April - May. If 'spring greens' (unhearted cabbages) are required, sow seed direct in the cropping positions and thin seedlings to 20cm (8in) apart. Harvest whole young plants the same autumn as sown or the following spring.
