Cress Seeds

Cress is the perfect seed to grow if you live in an apartment with no garden or have a tiny, inner city patio. It can be grown indoors all year round and will be ready to harvest in just two weeks. Simply sow thickly on moist kitchen roll or seed compost, lightly firming seeds down. Place in gentle warmth 15 degrees Celsius (60 Fahrenheit), and do not allow to dry out. Cress is also fun to grow with children in empty egg shells to create ‘cress heads’. Simply remove the tops from the eggs, wash them out and insert a damp cotton wool ball into each egg shell before sprinkling in a tea spoon of cress seeds into each one. Leave on the windowsill and your cress will start growing within a few days. If you paint faces on your egg shells at the start it looks like the growing hair of a cress head as it emerges out of the top! There is nothing better than being able to cut fresh cress from your own windowsill, whether to use in an egg and cress sandwich, incorporated into salads, pureed into a soup with potatoes and cream or served as a bed for roast beef or roast chicken so it wilts and absorbs the juices.
