Blue conifer plants
Conifer plants are invaluable to provide shape, structure and texture to borders and container displays. These cone-bearing, woody seed plants are mostly trees and mostly evergreen, traditionally characterised by their conical shape. Conifers with blue foliage, often bluey-green or silvery-blue, add an extra boost of colour and contrast while being generally unfussy and care free. Juniper Blue Arrow is our best selling blue conifer with a slender, narrow, upright habit and bright silvery-blue textured foliage. It is a very compact-branched variety forming a beautiful pencil-shaped tree, reaching 1.5-2.5 metres tall, working well in pairs either side of an entrance or doorway, in rows to provide a Mediterranean character to the garden or as a standalone specimen. Plants with bluish-grey coloured foliage sometimes have “glauca” in their Latin names, such as Chamaecyparis Minima Glauca. Other excellent blue varieties include Chamaecyparis 'Pelt's Blue' with its blue-grey young foliage, later maturing to dark blue-green with a narrow, conical habit, creating an attractive, architectural shape to grow smaller shrubs around and Chamaecyparis Boulevard, a semi-dwarf, evergreen conifer with a dense, upright and broadly pyramidal growth habit.
