Level fill a tray with seed compost firming with the base of another tray. Water well with a fine rose. Scatter seeds thinly over the surface, lightly covering with vermiculite. Place a propagator at 18-25 degree Celsius (64-77 Fahrenheit) or cover tray with cling film and leave in a warm room.

When shoots appear, remove cling film. Keep seedlings in a light position, but shade from direct sunlight. When plants are 5cm (2in) tall, transplant 5cm (2in) apart into small pots or module trays. Grow on in a minimum temperature of 10 degree Celsius (50 Fahrenheit)

Leaf iconHardening Off/Planting Out

Gradually accustom plants to outside conditions for 2-3 weeks before planting out when risk of frost has passed. Allow 20cm (8in) between plants. Water well until established.
