Exceptional Large Berry Harvest

Produces large, uniform berries that are firm with superb sweet flavour and excellent commercial quality characteristics. The succulent berries are well displayed in prominent clusters and are easily plugged for a trouble-free picking experience. This exceptional characteristic provides easy harvesting and superior fruit quality that makes this variety outstanding for fresh eating, preserving, and culinary applications whilst extending the raspberry season into late summer.

Outstanding Sweet Flavour Excellence

The large juicy fruits are uniform, firm and have a superb sweet flavour with excellent eating quality. These berries combine exceptional sweetness with superior texture and maintain excellent firmness both fresh and when processed, creating a premium eating experience that represents the finest in late-season raspberry quality with commercial-grade standards.

Exceptional Disease Resistance Advantage

Disease resistant with moderately vigorous growth that prolifically crops throughout the season. This remarkable disease tolerance eliminates many traditional raspberry cultivation challenges, allowing worry-free garden enjoyment and significantly reducing maintenance requirements whilst ensuring consistent late-season harvests when other varieties have finished.

Extended Late Summer Harvest Season

Named after the Roman month of August, thereby suggesting its fruiting period, bridging the gap between summer and autumn fruiting varieties. One of the last to finish cropping each season, through August, providing valuable late-season berry production when most summer varieties have completed their harvest, ensuring extended fresh fruit availability during peak preserving season.

Superior Culinary Versatility

The large, uniform berries with superb sweet flavour make them perfect for diverse culinary applications including fresh consumption, freezing, jam-making, desserts, compotes, and baking. The firm texture and excellent flavour retention make these berries ideal for gourmet food preparation and preservation, particularly valuable for extending the fresh raspberry season.

Commercial Quality Excellence

Widely used commercially due to its large, uniform fruit quality and excellent production characteristics. This commercial-standard quality ensures gardeners receive restaurant and retail-quality berries from their home garden, providing exceptional value and gourmet eating experiences that rival the finest commercial productions.

Self-Fertile Convenience

Self-fertile, eliminating the need for multiple varieties and ensuring reliable fruit production with just a single planting. This natural self-fertility makes it perfect for small gardens and simplifies garden planning whilst ensuring consistent annual late-season harvests without requiring additional pollination partners.

Manageable Growth Habit

Moderately vigorous variety with upright bush growth that typically reaches 4-6 feet in height with a manageable 2-3 foot spread. Plant raspberry canes against their supports, allowing a distance of 60cm (24") between plants. This balanced growth provides excellent productivity whilst remaining manageable for home garden cultivation.

British Heritage Excellence

Bred at East Malling Research Station, this raspberry represents the pinnacle of British fruit breeding, bringing together exceptional late-season production, superior flavour, and commercial-quality characteristics to create one of the most valuable late-summer raspberry varieties available to home gardeners.

Support Structure Requirements

Requires sturdy post and wire support system to accommodate the productive canes and heavy late-season fruit loads. The investment in proper support infrastructure is rewarded with exceptional berry production, easier harvesting access, and improved fruit quality throughout the extended growing season.

Premium Garden Performance

Very winter hardy with disease resistance and prolific cropping characteristics that ensure success in various garden situations. This exceptional hardiness and reliability provide gardeners with dependable late-season fruit production, making it an invaluable addition to any productive garden scheme.

Multiple Landscape Applications

Excellent for dedicated raspberry patches, but equally effective in kitchen gardens, along fence lines, or integrated into productive landscape designs. The manageable growth habit and exceptional late-season production make it perfect for extending the fresh berry harvest and providing valuable late-summer fruit when other varieties have finished.

Growing Success Tips

Success with Raspberry 'Octavia' centres on providing fertile, moisture-retentive, slightly acidic soil with consistent moisture and establishing proper support structures for the productive canes. They thrive in moisture-retentive, fertile, slightly acidic soils which are well-drained and prefer being planted in sunny sheltered locations, although they will tolerate partial shade. Plant canes 60cm apart against sturdy supports, apply Vitax Q4 or similar fertiliser in spring, and prune annually in late winter to remove old fruited canes and encourage new growth. Take advantage of the exceptional disease resistance and extended harvesting season whilst ensuring proper support and regular feeding for maximum late-season productivity. Your Raspberry 'Octavia' will demonstrate that exceptional fruit quality and extended season production can be perfectly combined in one outstanding variety, delivering extraordinary sweet flavour experiences and premium late-summer fruit production that transforms any garden into a productive and beautiful edible landscape sanctuary.

Buying Fruit Trees/Bushes from Jacksons Nurseries

Our trees might be Freshly Potted and the root system may not be fully established, and loose soil may occur when unpacking.

Unlike many garden centres, supermarkets and some nurseries here at Jacksons Nurseries we sell the majority of our stock all year round. Our stock is for the most part grown outdoors making it far hardier than those grown under glass and/or only sold ‘In Season’.

Here at Jacksons Nurseries we would favour a hardy outdoor grown plant every time. They are far less likely to suffer from the shock of being planted in colder conditions and they will begin to establish more rapidly the following spring. This can mean that they don’t look like a ‘picture perfect’ plant when purchased out of season but with the correct care and a little time you’ll have a wonderful plant to enjoy for many years to come.
