Brachyglottis plants
Brachyglottis plants are beautiful informal evergreen shrubs with grey-green foliage, covered in fuzzy, white growth when young giving a textured feel and felted appearance. They are perfect for bringing a burst of colour to your garden with large, generally yellow, daisy-like flowers in corymbs or panicles from summer through autumn. Formerly known as Senecio, they are tolerant of drought, wind and salt-laden air, making them well suited to coastal locations. Native to New Zealand and Tasmania, Brachyglottis can be used as ornamentals at the front or middle of a shrubbery or mixed border, make effective low hedges and windbreaks and can be used in gravel or Mediterranean style gardens. They make great low maintenance space fillers and will thrive in hot, sunny parts of southern UK and even on poor soils. Give your Brachyglottis plants the best start in your garden by sprinkling some Rootgrow mycorrhizal fungi around the roots before planting and mixing some bone meal fertiliser into the backfill.
