Thuja conifer plants

Thuja is an easy to grow, unfussy, evergreen conifer similar in appearance to Leylandii but slower growing, making it easier to maintain as a hedge or screen. It has a pyramidal growth habit with glossy evergreen foliage arranged in flattened sprays in a miniature fan-like appearance. Foliage gives off a wonderful, almost fruity aroma, when crushed and after it has rained. Thuja plants will tolerate hard pruning, typically growing back even if you cut into older wood. They will succeed in any soil from nutrient-poor chalky soils through to heavy clay, providing it is not completely waterlogged. Thuja also works well grown as a ball or pyramid to add year-round colour and structure to the border and act as a foil to showier plants. Trim once a year in autumn or twice a year to give a more formal appearance with very sharp lines.
