Dwarf azalea plants
Azaleas are flowering shrubs in the genus Rhododendron, used to refer to generally smaller-growing evergreen and deciduous varieties with smaller leaves. Within the azalea category, there are some particularly small-growing varieties reaching no more than 1 metre tall (often less), which we categorise as dwarf. Dwarf varieties tend to be Japanese evergreen azaleas, which have a compact growth habit, dainty leaves and stunning long-lasting blooms.
Azaleas are acid-loving plants producing long-lasting spring flowers which clothe the entire bush, available in a wide variety of colours. They are easy to grow and shade tolerant, making them perfect for growing under the canopies of trees or adding instant colour to drab parts of the garden. Generally slow growing, Azaleas are effective when grown standalone or in mass plantings in larger areas. Trim after flowing to encourage a bushy growth habit. See our Rhododendrons category for generally larger varieties with sizable, leathery evergreen leaves.
