Privet hedging plants

Shop our wide range of privet hedging plants, a popular choice for bushy, fast growing, evergreen hedges with lustrous foliage – available in green and gold varieties. Also known by their Latin name Ligustrum, privet plants have clothed countless urban plots in green for generations, resistant to dense shade, pollution and salt-laden air. They are unfussy about site and situation and their small, oval foliage clips beautifully to create a dense and neat screen. Privet is fast growing, typically putting on 30-60cm of new growth per year and ultimately reach 2-4 metres, depending on the variety, although it can be maintained at any height you require. They produce inconspicuous white flowers in June and July, which are generally trimmed off, followed by black berries in autumn. They may experience some leaf fall in very cold winters, particularly in the first couple of years, but are generally true evergreens once established. Privet makes a great choice for a visibility screen, to absorb outside noise and soak up pollution toxins, particularly in urban settings. Water newly established hedges until established and trim twice over the summer growing season to maintain their shape and form.
