Easy to grow alpine and rockery plants
Here is our collection of the best easy to grow rockery and alpine plants that can thrive even at the hands of the least green fingered of gardeners! One good choice is Arabis plants – a beautiful perennial with long-lasting spring blooms. Arabis produce loose flower spikes which clothe the entire plant, creating a fabulous display against the backdrop of evergreen leaves. Growing to 15cm tall, they’re a popular choice for rockery gardens, edging or even a container. Alternatively, bellflower plants (campanula) are cheerful perennials with nodding, bell-shaped flower heads, typically in shades of lavender, light blue, pink and white, held high on tall stems above toothed, mid-green leaves. Bellflowers bloom heaviest in late spring to early summer but blooms can flourish right through to October in milder areas. Another good choice is sedum plants – evergreen perennials with unusually shaped, thick, succulent leaves and fleshy stems. Sedums are commonly known as stonecrop as gardeners joke that only stones need less care and live longer. They are easy to grow, thriving in full sun in unfertile, dry soils and producing beautiful short panicles of star-shaped flowers in tight clusters.
