Adam's Needle
Yucca filamentosa
Gigantic, upright spikes of bell-shaped, creamy-white flowers make a showy, eye-catching display from mid- to late summer, giving a Mediterranean appearance and creating a focal-point in the garden. This is a handsome, ornamental variety with rigid, strap-like dark green leaves that are spine-tipped and form a rosette, appearing to arise from one point. The margins of the leaves are decorated with long curly threads or "filaments" that peel back as the leaf grows, eventually dropping off on older leaves. Perfect for adding architectural flair to the garden, it’s ideal for using in mixed borders and natural areas or incorporating into rock gardens and perennial borders. Combining well with agaves, other grasses and palms, it is an essential part to any tropical, architectural or Mediterranean planting scheme.
