Chinese Wisteria
Wisteria sinensis
Fabulously fragrant, pea-like, lavender-blue flowers which hang majestically from bare stems between May and June. This is a brilliant, twining, deciduous climber that’s renowned for its superior fragrance and flower colour. Ideal for training over a strong pergola, archway or arbour, it’s resistant to pests and diseases and will withstand the toughest of winters. Its twisting stems also make it a great choice for scrambling through large trees, where the stems will wrap themselves around the trunk producing a fabulous, colourful display during the summer. Fresh green foliage starts to emerge in mid-summer, just as the flowers are starting to fade. A spectacular, maintenance-free climber that’s perfect for the most modern to the most traditional of gardens.
