Lesser Perwinkle
Vinca minor Illumination
This is an exciting, versatile, bright evergreen groundcover which forms a dense, weed-suppressing mat of unique, striking, golden-yellow leaves rimmed with deep green. It has delightful, pinkish-red stems and becomes studded with fantastic, deep violet-blue flowers that are set off beautifully against the backdrop of foliage from May to June and appear sporadically throughout the rest of the growing season. Perfect for brightening up dull, shaded areas of the garden, its trailing habit makes it great for using in hanging baskets and cascading down slopes, banks, walls and curbs. It’s also excellent for covering the exposed legs of older shrubs and looks particularly attractive when set off against a backdrop of dark evergreen shrubs. Interplant with spring bulbs for maximum impact

Garden Care:
Cut back or mow down to a couple of inches above the ground every few years after flowering has finished to invigorate and encourage new growth, ensuring a thick mat of weed-resistant foliage is maintained. Avoid growing it in hot, dry areas which receive excessive sunlight and water regularly during the first year after planting. It benefits from an application of a slow release fertiliser and a generous mulch of garden compost or manure in spring. To renew or restrict growth cut plant back hard in early spring and pinch back buds of new plants to promote a spreading, branching habit
