Laurustinus
Viburnum tinus Eve Price

This is a versatile, low maintenance, bushy evergreen shrub with waxy, broadly oval, glossy dark green leaves on reddish-brown stems. It produces deliciously scented, handsome clusters of tiny, star-shaped, pink-flushed white flowers which emerge from striking, deep carmine-pink buds between December and April. Perfect for adding winter interest to shrub borders or containers when most other plants are dormant, it makes a lovely, informal flowering hedge and can be used as an evergreen backdrop for ornamental and feature plants. It has a compact, dome-shaped habit with a Mediterranean appearance and displays small, metallic, blue-black berries in the autumn

Position: Full sun to dense shade

Soil: Prefers a moderately fertile, moist yet well-drained, humus-rich, neutral to acidic soil

Rate of Growth: Average

Flowering Period: December to April

Flower Colour: White flushed with pink

Other Features: It is tolerant of a wide range of soils and conditions and has won the prestigious RHS Award of Garden Merit. Do not consume the berry-like fruits as they may cause a mild stomach upset

Hardiness: Fully hardy: stands a temperature down to -15°C

Garden Care: Water regularly during the first year after planting and remove any dead and damaged stems in late autumn. We’d also recommend trimming back any over-vigorous stems that ruin the attractive, domed shape of the plant. Regular pruning isn’t normally required

Eventual Height:  2.5m
Eventual Spread:  2.5m
